Jazz at Johnstown
Leslie Dowdall and Nigel Mooney Trio
Due to unforeseen circumstances, legendary singer Leslie Dowdall (Wonderful Thing) is stepping in for Lizzie Thomas at Jazz at Johnstown on March 22nd and will join our amazing trio of musicians (Nigel Mooney, Scott Flanigan, Dylan Lynch). Following an operation for a detached retina, Lizzie is unable to fly from New York.
Joining Leslie on Saturday at Johnstown Castle is a trio truly from the top drawer of Irish jazz: Nigel Mooney on guitar, Scott Flanigan on organ and rising star Dylan Lynch on drums.
Leslie Dowdall became famous as lead singer with In Tua Nua, recording four albums, touring the world and sharing the stage with U2 and Bob Dylan.
As a solo artist Leslie has enjoyed critical acclaim: her song, Wonderful Thing was chosen as the anthem for both the RTE National Lottery and National Daffodil Day ad campaigns. Her album Out There featured the hit single Freedom, plus her stunning version of the Jimi Hendrix classic, Angel.
Nigel is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s leading jazz singers and guitarists. A charismatic figure on the Irish jazz scene for many years, his Gripewater Blues Band drew many fans of both jazz and the blues. His first album, “All My Love’s In Vain” (Rubyworks) was released to critical acclaim and quickly became one of Ireland’s highest selling albums by a jazz artist.
